EVELYN
KUTSCHERA

Biography

Evelyn Kutschera (born 1986) lives in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. She gained her BA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography  from the University of Gloucestershire in 2012.

In her ongoing series “Skinheads” she documents and portrays the contemporary skinhead scene in Europe. Her project was inspired by the photography of Gavin Watson, Bernd and Hilla Becher and many others. However, she finds her inspiration in many fields of art. As a great admirer of both architecture and design, Evelyn Kutschera often connects her portraits with their surroundings. For this, she incorporates brutalist style elements whenever possible.

Evelyn Kutschera preferably uses an analogue medium format camera to photograph her subjects. Depending on the occasion however, she likes to switch it up with a 35mm SLR or any of her many old compact cameras.

The photographer has assisted photographer Gavin Watson for Dr. Martens. Her commercial clients include the renowned fashion brand “Merc London”, multinational financial data vendor “SIX Group”, “LG Electronics”, to name a few.Kutschera has done promotional work for Swiss artists and bands.

The Art Association Schaffhausen actively supports Evelyn Kutschera and made it possible for her to hold a solo exhibition in 2018 and to participate in numerous group shows.
